We organise a range of routes to suit different types of bikes, and different expectations of riders.
Any size adventure, trail or supermoto type bike is fine, and most single cylinder commuter bikes are suitable. We can do routes for British bikes and smaller classic bikes, although the day can be quite testing. Riders with valuable pristine bikes may find the fords and gravel roads through farmyards a bit too dirty!
You are welcome to bring a pillion passenger (although you better warn your friend that there are gates which need opening and closing, and passengers usually end up doing the job!) There is no charge for a pillion.
If you wish to download the price list for using our bikes, it is available as an Excel spreadsheet or scroll down to view online. Touratech customers receive £5 off one day’s riding or £10 off two days’ riding or £15 off three days.

The route covered depends on your bike, your experience and the tyres you have fitted. Continental TKC80 Twinduros and Metzeler Karoo T probably give the best grip on slippery surfaces. TKC80s are available in a wide range of sizes for 17 and 18 inch rear and 19 and 21 inch front, and are good on gravel, road and rocks, not too bad with mud and OK on the road. The Karoo is available in 140/80 18 rear and 110/80 19 or 90/90 21 front, and has good offroad capability. The Michelin AC10 road legal motocross may be available in sizes which fit some adventure bikes. It is good in mud and soft going, but dreadful on the road!
Metzler Tourance, Michelin Anakee 2, Avon Distanzia, Bridgestone Battle Wing, Dunlop Trailmax, Pirelli Scorpion Trail and ContiTrailAttack (yes, it is one word!) are all good on road and fine on gravel and grass if dry, but if it the surface has any damp or wet mud, they are not good at all! The route planned will be different if we are riding in the wet.
Big KTMs have Pirelli MT90 ATs fitted as standard which are slightly more off road bias than the Tourance type tyres, but no where near as good as the TKC80 or Karoo.
Continental TKC80 Metzeler Tourance
We have a selection of bikes to suit riders of different sizes and levels of experience. Our biggest bike is a Yamaha TTR600, which is low-revving and torquey with a low seat height. We have a Suzuki DRZ400, which is tall, and some smaller bikes: a Yamaha TTR250, a CCM CXR230 and a Rieju 200. For riders with shorter legs, we have a Yamaha Serow, and a Suzuki DR125 which is also suitable for a rider with a provisional licence. We have a 50cc bike for 16 year olds although it needs a little work and is not on the road at present.
If everyone is taller than 5' 6", we can supply 5 bikes. If one or two people need a Serow or the 125cc bike, we can supply 6.
I am afraid that our insurance does not cover pillion passengers. We do however have a supermoto sidecar, and can take a non-rider as a sidecar passenger. There is no age limit for a sidecar passenger, but it is recommended that young people should be physically well grown and aged at least 14. The sidecar is a custom built outfit made by Kevin Hollister Racing and has a tuned Honda XR650 engine in an integral frame, with extended swing arm and leading links forks. The passenger has a small seat, but on the hairpin bends and gravel roads, he/she will need to move about on the platform to keep the bike stable. People wishing to drive the sidecar must have previous sidecar experience, or book a day of one-to-one tuition.
The price is per person with protective clothing included, if required.
Sidecar passengering is £50 a day. Sidecar driving is more expensive as the bike is rather costly to maintain. (It goes through bearings like no tomorrow!)
If your group is 5 persons or less, and you are happy to share in our open plan annexe with 4 beds upstairs, one in an alcove downstairs, living area, and kitchenet5te with plenty of room for bike clothing and equipment, contact Marianne (or phone 01686 430522) for a price to include bed and breakfast, or bed, breakfast and evening meal.
